Club Scrap's Monthly Blog Hop: September" Transformations

 I decided to have fun with this kit.  It is such a beautiful kit and lends itself to Elegance and Serenity, but there is a playful side to it too.  Look at those Rocks.  They just invite fun images and playful cards.  So, in thinking about this kit,  I decided "what is Bamboo without a Panda?"  And I went on the search for the perfect little fellow to share my Bamboo with.  I found him at My Favorite Things Stamps, and he made me smile.  So join me as we explore Club Scrap's Transformation with Happy Panda.  I have nic- named him PoPo in honor of my friend who adores KungFu Panda.

I made three cards with this theme.  The first was for the Coffee Lover's Blog Hop.  If you didn't hop along, that post is just below this one.

Card one:  Happy Birthday

This was actually the first card I created.  I had the idea for this card when I saw the rock and bamboo in the card kit.  All that was missing was a Panda.  So after I found the perfect Panda, I got to work.  This card is made with Masking, a whole lot of masking.  

First I started with a plan and stamped out my design.  Figured out what needed stamped first and the placement.  The challenge here was determining what was on top of what and making sure I did not create other issues.  This was apparent when I placed the Bamboo.  Too far one direction or the other and it "didn't read right".  

I stamped this on white paper with black ink.  There are measurements and notations written on the pattern.  This was the 3rd or 4th attempt and in this one, I used the mask to make sure my thinking was on target.  I used A MISTI but the same technique can be managed without a Misti as perfect placement is not essential.

I started with the pattern, placed the stamps, picked up the stamps with the lid of the MISTI or could be an acrylic block, positioned my card stock into position and stamped.  I Stamped with Momento Ink as I will be using Copic Markers to color the images.

Rock is stamped next and then masked off.  I am using Post it Notes, but the stick is not woking so added tape to hold down.

First Bamboo Stamped.  I used Momento Bamboo Leave.  Later I will use a Fine Line Marker to enhance the Bamboo.

Bamboo all stamped and Image is ready for Coloring.  The Coloring was very minimal.  I added shading to the bamboo, and rock.  Gave the little Panda's some pink cheeks.  

Double click on the image to see a close up of the Bamboo Stems.  Also, look at how the area around the mask was blended with the fine line pen.  Often when you mask there is a halo that appears around the image.   Camouflage is easy if you step back and let your eye tell you what is missing.   I added grass and leaves to ground the image.  Also with copic markers.  Markers that were used are:  C0, C1, R20, YG23, YG97, YG99, G46, G94, BG90, BG93, and BG95.  The sky area BG 10 and BG 11. The rock was enhanced with W1,W3, and W5.  Looks like a lot of markers and I could have done with less, but I just never seem to be finished!!! Stamped the Sentiment in Versfine and heat embossed with clear embossing powder by Hero Arts.

This card measures 4X7" and will fit into a number 10 envelope

Card 2:  Wisdom

This card is a very simple, mostly a one layer card.  Sometimes we just need a quick and easy card that has little fuss.  After 2 intense Panda projects,  I was ready for R&R.  The message seemed to want to be quiet and thoughtful and the Panda, being a wise animal was the perfect presenter.  Reminds me of Confucius, for some odd reason, Anyway!

The bamboo was stamped in a pigment ink.  First it was inked and stamped off.  The stamping on the card is a second generation stamping.  The ink was Color Box, Artichoke and was a very juicy stamp.  Sentiment was stamped in versa fine, Onyx Black and embossed with clear powder.   The little Bear was also stamped and embossed in the same manner.  No coloring here, just Stamp, emboss, fussy cut and mount.  The final card is a standard A-2 card in White, matted with green paper from the kit, and added the stamped panel with my ATG.  The only area that has dimension is the sentiment and bear, these were Popped up with 3D foam squares.

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.

Time for the fall Blog Hop.  I used Club Scrap's September Kit, Transformation and created a fun Panda Themed Coffee (or Tea rather) card.  Hope you enjoy!!

Let me show you how I made this fun card.  I think this fits in with the fall theme as I only drink tea in the fall and winter.  The rest of the time, it is coffee and of course Iced Sweet Tea, I do live in the South, LOL.


First step was to create the Bamboo and leaves.  Full instructions are on ClubScraps Blog, link:  Faux Bamboo.

I made my Bamboo a little darker than in the tutorial, and I inked with a black pen the line and added detail.  The same with the leaves.  I used 2 colors of green ink and then fussy cut them out.

The leaves and stems were layered onto a printed background from Club Scrap's Transformation kit with dimensional tape.  The leaves were curved and supported with dimensional to give them a 3D look.

The remaining elements were stamped and fussy Cut.  Panda, bubble/words, tea bag and Cup were stamped with Versafine Black Onyx and heat embossed with Clear embossing powder.  The leaves were stamped with Bamboo Leaves by Momento.  After Fussy cutting, the tea-bag and cup were enhanced with Copic markers: E11 and E 13. and Y24.  Happiness was stamped on Brown card stock with versa mark and heat embossed using Platinum by Ranger.

All of the elements were arranged onto Card base with dimensionals and then mounted onto a brown Card base.  The finished card measures 4" X 7".

Club Scrap Team Challenge: September's Kit, "Transformation"

Time for another team Challenge.  This month we were to use a sketch to guide our creations for this months.   I must say it was a challenge, coming up with 3 different cards using the same sketch.  I have never used a Sketch to create a card before, so most of my challenge was figuring out how to translate the sketch into something unique.  As luck would have, I fell back onto my favorite topic, Backgrounds.  So join me as I show you how I made the backgrounds and created my 3 projects.

The Sketch

Card One:

This one follows the sketch nearly exactly, just changed orientation.  The background is made by using a piece of acetate to "smush" the ink onto the paper.  The photo tutorial below follows the steps:

Distress Ink pads were  squished onto craft sheet and water added.  Note how water is beading up

Acetate pressed onto craft sheet and then applied to dry water color paper.  Process continues until happy with results.

Continue to place acetate into ink and apply to paper

You can add ink as needed or use water to move the ink around further.

When you are happy, allow to dry completely.  I found I had the most random effects when I allowed the paper to dry thoroughly after this first step before moving on.

Using a dry brush, apply Primary Elements randomly onto paper.  I was after a gold vein effect.

Spray with water to move the Pigment around.  You can add additional pigment as needed.  

Background after dry and gold cord added.  If you double click on the image, you can see a close up view.  The coloring is more obvious.  The gold is very hard to photograph but is pretty.

Final Steps:

Hammered metal paper in kit was die cut and added to a brown circle.    The coin stamp was heat embossed, fussy cut and mounted onto fun foam.  The bamboo stamp was stamped onto another circle and al were mounted onto the finished background.

  Finished card:  The background and embellishments are matted onto a brown mat and then onto an A-2 Card Base.  The flower is a gold woven mesh that was formed into a flower.  Leaves are from a die.   All supplies: will be listed at the end.

  This card is simpler in regards to background.  I used a pre printed Background from the Kit.  The shell image was stamped and heat embossed onto a white Neenah card and colored with Copics.  Fairly straight forward.  To get that smooth blending I needed to tip to tip blend, but once finished was worth the hassle.
  
  
  
  Here I took license with the sketch.  There are 3 circles, the shell being the first circle and also the "flower embellishment.  A strip of paper was embossed with the same embossing powder to tie in the metallic from the shell, as well as the sentiment .
  
  
  

  

  BG 10 and BG 13, blended with tip to tip application. After coloring the image was partially cut with a circle die, and fussy cut the remainder of the way.  Prior to mounting, shadow was colored in using C1, C3 on background.

Club Scrap's Monthly Technique Challenge: Bleach

Today I am posting for Club Scraps Monthly Technique Challenge.  This month we are using bleach. So join me as I tell you about how I used Bleach to create my design.

Bleached background using Transformations: Septembers Club Stamps

First step is chose a stamp.  I chose to use my bleached stamping as the background, so I chose 2 stamps to start and see which one worked.

Household bleach, and a rubber stamp.

I chose to take a sponge and dab on the bleach rather than dipping it into a bowl of bleach or even a bowl with paper towels.  Then I layered the paper over the wet stamp.  This helped to control the drips and allow more contact with the paper.

Club Scrap Brown

 Not all paper produces the same color with bleaching.  Both of these examples are a brown paper, nearly identical in color, but when bleach was added, the result was entirely different.

I was wanting more of the yellow coloration, so hunted in my stash until I found a brown that bleached the color I was after.
The Club Scrap example will be turned into a card and posted at a later date.




Once bleaching was done, I turned to the rest of the card which was straight forward.  The bleached card was matted onto Core-dinations by Ranger in Gold.  The Sentiment was cut and stamped onto brown card-stock and heat embossed with Ranger Fine Gold Detail.  The Chinese coin was also stamped and heat embossed in the same manner and fussy cut.

 The green Ginkgo was made the same way, except Golden Jade Primary Element was substituted for the Ancient Coin.

All of the elements were adhered using 3d tape and fun foam, and then matted onto an A-6 card base (4.5" X 6.6").  All done!!
