Club Scrap Blog Hop: Orchard

Well hello again.  Time for the monthly blog hop.  This month's kit was Orchard, a lovely collection of fruit and beautiful artwork.  So glad you are hopping along.  But just to make sure all is well, you should have arrived from  Jennifer or to start at the beginning Click Here.

Ok for my project.  Decided to do something besides cards and this kit is perfect for my project.  Lets take a look.

Recipe box!!

Acrylic Recipe Box

I started by creating a box for the inside to give it some color.  Using the box I made a template and cut out my paper.

Assembled,  This just slips into the box and will hold the artwork.

I started out by stamping the image with Ground Expresso Distress Ink.  then using the markers as a watercolor, colored them in.  Used a fine line black for details.  I was after a watercolor/pastel look.
this was then inked further and trimmed down .

The front panel was a combination of digital and stamping.  I used Photoshop and found a font that matched close enough to the kit's for my name and "recipe".  Cut this down to match the size of the box and stamped in the apples.  This was on White cardstock.  I used distress and as little water as possible to color the image.  Then Inked it with ground expresso to cut down on the "white glare".

I created the recipe cards and then imported the digital images onto these cards.  I also created a blank card and stamped the fruit.  These I colored with distress markers, the same way as the lid.

Lastly I created the dividers.  I used left over paper from many kits, cut the tabs and laminated with my Minc.

These are the dies I used and I am not sure what company produced them.  I believe Lawn Fawn.  Sizzix has a similar one, Item #656629, folder tab dies.  My Favorite things has a similar one as well.

Club Scrap: Team Challenge Watercolors

Sorry I missed last month.  August is a busy month in the horse show world.  Shows, getting ready to travel to Nationals in early September.  Last year we were madly getting ready for the Paralympics, this year Nationals in North Carolina.  But I am back to crafting.  But before we start, lets get some house keeping issues out of the way.  You should have arrived from  Cheryl or to start at beginning, Click Here.

This month we were challenged to use any water color method to create our projects.  I chose my go to favorite and most reliable technique. Lets start by looking at the cards.

Ok lets talk about how I made these. Very simply.

Marvy or Momento Markers and stamps.  I have to say the best results from this technique is red rubber.  To watch a video of the actual process, here is one to start,  Ai, basic stamping for watercolor effect .  For more just google Art Impressions Watercolor on YouTube.  They have a whole line of stamps and many videos showing step by step.  I do it different, less "fluffy" and vary the technique a bit, but you will develop your own style.  My best is not with markers.  To see how I usually use this technique, here is a video I made years ago with Twinkling H2os.  My video, enjoy.

Ok lets get to it.

I use Strathmore Water color paper and cut down to 5X6,  this gives me room to cut down to size.  I do not tape down my paper ever, my heat gun is my friend.  Not needed with markers though.

I generally create mask for the larger images.  Also, when using stamps that are not designed specifically for this technique it is easier to manage where they go.

Once images are complete.  I go back in with a black marker and other markers to put back in the detail.  I do not like the "vagueness of this technique".  So here are a few images of various stages in the process.

This was a bit of a challenge, I will talk about this more when we get to the cards.

Ok, Card 1 is probably the simplest.

I haven't done this with markers for a long time, and could not quite get my brain to work.  As you can see the lemons are not in the basket.  Oh well.  Still looks ok and is clean and simple.  Added a sentiment, in black with clear embossing, matted on red card stock, then an A2 card base in white.  Perfect for a quick not to drop in mail.  I should do that!!!.   Need to sign and date.  Don't forget that step, LOL.  

Card 2:

I like this card.  The apples and the saying are a perfect combo.  Again simple and clean, no fuss.  Stamped sentiment, embossed in clear. Mounted on a purple mat and finally onto an A2 White Card base.  Signed! but no date.  I will fix that.

Card 3:

This is a what if card.  Seemed redundant to keep repeating the same technique so I created one!!

Started out by inking the stamp with the marker and then randomly (well not really, but close) to my water color paper.  Then i poured on some water and let it run, dabbed it up with a paper towel and used  a brush to soften. 

Interesting, so I continued to fuss until I liked it and then stamped my words.  

Next I stamped the images along the bottom.  But they did not show up and the brown ink blended when I added water.  Oh now what.  Distress markers and inks to the rescue.  Fortunately for this step I had used my Misti, so lining up was not a problem  Inked the images in Ground espresso, wiped off some areas where I knew there should not be a harsh line, also lightening the ink  and stamped.  I was ready to trash it, so what the heck.  OK not bad.  Then I resumed using the markers, but distress this time and re-inked each stamp with appropriate color and stamped.  Still too light.  OK, I just took the ink pads and made puddles and painted in the images.  I could have used the marker, but it is faster and easier to get a big blob of ink with the pads.  Once happy, went back in with either the markers or a black fine liner and added detail.  Not the best.  But when it was finished the overall effect is fine.  

Lastly I trimmed, mounted it onto a card base from the kit.  Added brads, some ribbon and an embellishment.  Makes me think of a sign at a Farmer's Market.  

Not bad.
