Club Scrap: May Blog Hop

Well this month we are off to the Adirondacks, perfect for Father's Day Cards!!  But first, you should have arrived from Jennifer or to start at the beginning Click here.

Ok, lets start with Card 1.  This is my Fathers Day card.  One of my girls will give it to their Dad.  I decided I wanted it to look like we were looking through a boat window at the scene.  So.. . . . . . . .

Not the best photo.  The glare from the acetate window messes with my focus.  The blue front is a rich denim, but the overall design is pleasing.

So first I need to make the Window Rim.

Layered several together to get the right look.  Then using the smaller die, cut the card and the mat to create the window.  cut a piece of acetate with the larger circle, and sandwiched them onto the from tot eh card.  Used embellishments from a different kit to create the "window" screws.

Took a piece of white card stock and lightly sketched the circle.  I used the cutout from from dies as a template.

Then I stamped and colored the image.

I used several stamps and using a lighter grey ink, stamped them on to the background.  Then using a black ink, stamped the bird and heat embossed in clear.  Colored the whole scene with copics.  Added some black inking to give definition.
Here is the final, with inking and a sentiment.  Signed my name under the bank with the year.
This panel is then adhered to the inside of the card.
Strong and masculine!!

Card 2:

Time to play with those Oxides.  It is a love hate relationship, but the more I play the better I like them.  They have some properties that make them a challenge as well as fun.

I started by inking a 110# piece of card stock.

The oxides blend very well.  This is the background for Card 2, used the same technique for Card 3 but with different colors.  I taped this down.  I did not want any movement.

sprayed the backside of the stencil with water.  until wet, but not dripping and placed over the inked paper.  Payed a paper towel on top to catch any extra water and . . . . . . . . Drum Roll!!!!!

Words in the background.  Amazing!!!

Mounted on a white mat, a green card base.  Added some gold thread, an embellishment. Finished off with a sentiment stamped and embossed in gold.  Simple but stunning!!

Ok Card 3:

Having so much fun with the Oxides, I pressed on.

Stamped the tree image in Versamark and embossed in white.  Inked and blended with idea of hills, water and sky.

I used water to distress, tried to run it through my MINC to remove embossing powder and made a mess.  Ok, redo, no water, just a slight mist (2 feet away) to set the ink and no MINC.  I am thinking the ink causes the paper to stick, probably wasn't dry, I must remember this ink takes forever to get completely dry.  Will try again with this thought another time!!.  All that was left was to trim it down to A2 mat size.
Lastly, I die cut a thanks from white card stock  added ribbon and rhinestones, Perfect!!!   Unisex thank you card.

Thats it for me.  Your next stop is Cheryl

Interactive Time!!: At Little Bits

I thought I would try something different for this card.  It is a hard concept to write about, so I will give you the highlights.  There are many YouTube videos on this technique.  Lets start with the finished card.

I just love this style of card.  I rarely do a card any more with just Copic Coloring and when I saw this mason jar in this month's Club Scrap kit: Adirondacks, I knew just what I wanted it to be!!!

The bugs in the jar light up.  The one thing I love about the South is Fireflies.  This brought back fond memories of my childhood and road trip with my grandparents.  We headed to Missouri, Iowa and Kansas to visit relatives and I caught a jar full of Fireflies.  I left off the lid, and they lit up the camper.  It was a sight, but the fact that my grandmothers was not happy with all bugs in the camper is the part I remember best and the amazement of seeing what the little beings can do in a closed space.  So here is my tribute.

I started my planning.  With interactive cards it takes trial and error.  I did not photo most of the steps, as you will need to do your own experimenting.

First I stamped the jar and added dots with a pencil where I thought the "lights" would go.  I needed my bugs flying in different directions, so. . . . .  .

I cut my stamp with an "arrow" like point at the bottom.

Then I stamped and placed arrows in the direction of the "arrow" on the stamp.    And stamped my images in Copic Friendly Ink.    Colored the image and then added the ink embellishments.

Now I needed to create a circuit for the lights.  I punched a hole in the body of the 3 bugs in the jar.

And on my practice stamped image, drew the lines for  the copper tape.

What did I use:  I tried this product.

Chibitronics lights

This is a basic stater kit with the copper wire, battery and lights.  I have used other products to this process, but thought this might be an easier option.  I am not very happy with it.  The lights are not very bright and this caused issues with photographing.  In the near future I will show you how to do this without the kit.  But this one is popular and has videos on YouTube if you need some helps.

Any way.

Circuits are easy.  I used a parallel circuit as I needed to have more than one light.

Started by making a "house for my battery.  Look at the battery, it has a + and a - sign on the battery.  Run a copper tape from the positive side and one from the negative side.  This always gives me pause as one of the tape lines must fold over and connect with one side of the battery.  The other line runs to the underside of the battery, whew, I know this is confusing!!

The tape is flexible, so as long as they don't lay on top of each other no worries.

The battery is under the clip. The outside line moves onto the top of the battery and the inside line is under the battery.  Note if the + is on the top or bottom.  Then just lay the lights to coincide with the correct positivity.

Mine would not stick, so I cut additional tape to "glue it down.  In the left corner you can see it going under and around the battery.  I built up the edge with phone tape, so I had "room" to press the corner into the battery, thus my lights only show up when pressed.  Double click to get a better look.

On the front of the card, I placed the lid over the battery with a note to press here, Voila, the bugs light up.  I just wish I could have figured out how to get a photo of the lights.

Another look!!,, I added some rhinestones to the background. a tag that I made to look like it was tied to the lid and mounted it on a blue mat and A2 white card base.     I love this card and the magic when it lights up is worth it!!

Club Scrap: Team Challenge

This month was inspirational and fun, I do admit I had to think!!  Always good to exercise those brain cells.  We were to use at least 2 different kits from months past to create our projects.   But before we start, lets get some housekeeping out of the way.  You should have arrived from Cheryl  If you want to start at the beginning:  Click Here.

Ok, lets Dive it!!!  We will start with a technique exploration.

This is fun.  I used Distress Oxide and then regular Distress, to create the background.

I started by stamping and embossing Happy Birthday in white in the center.  Hard to see here.  Then I used versa mark.  For this example I used a dirty ink pad so you could see how it is arranged.  On the final I actually used a clean pad.  I also was testing for placement.  This was done on Tim Holtz water color paper.

Next, I started with Oxide ink in Worn Lipstick and Broken china.

First I smeared the ink on a piece of plastic then misted with water until it was "gooey".  Then placed it over the card and smeared in.

First Inking.  I also sprayed this with water after the fact to remove some of that blob of blue ink in center.

After Dry, I sponged on Picked Raspberry and Mermaid Lagoon from the original Distress line.  Not bad.  The first on looks nice in the picture.  But in life, it was flat and not very interesting.  That is one of my issues with the Oxide, it lacks that spark we are used to with the original.  It looks "velvety". that look we are use to with chalk inks, not my favorite.  But here I get both, deep rich color with a punch.  ..

After Dry (well this was not entirely true), I trimmed it to size and Voila, that bottom edge tore.  Oh my, well let's just distress the whole thing.  Not bad.

Time to get this thing done!

There was a stamp with the same kit that is music notes.  I stamped, scanned and cut with my Brother Scan n Cut.

Then I used this pen to color in part of the stamp, when dry, foiled it!!

Not the best pic, the foil reflects the light, but you get the idea. I popped this up on glue dots.

Final step was to add a sentiment and a few embellishments.

Another look and a list of kits:

White card base, A2 size:  The Happy Birthday and Music Note was from "The Blues 2015"
Happy Birthday to you:  "Celebrate January 2016" and the embellishments from Color me Happy, January 2017".

Card 2:

This one was inspired by the Technique Challenge for this month.  Thank you Roni.  It was to create a border from a  stamp.  I started by following her directions, but that was too much scissor time for me so:::::: I tried something different and it worked!

I love this card, soft and gently, simple but sticking.  Lets take a look.

Started by stamping one side plus the butterfly.  Then I turned the card around and stamped the other half of the flowers.    This is where I got out my scissors, well that did not work!!

So I restamped, good thing I left the stamps in my MISTI.  Then I scanned and using my Brother Scan n Cut, cut it out.  I could not figure out how to only cut the bottom.  I was too lazy to go downstairs to get my computer so that I could just cut the bottom edge, and cut both the top and the bottom.

This is what I got.  I sniped off the "arms" that are connecting the two and get. . . . .
This!!

Then I colored the cutouts with real markers.

and Inked the paper.  Concentrated the ink (Distress Broken China, Original) and feathered it up towards the top, leaving the upper 1/3 white.

Layered on Silver Shimmer Velum and glued the flowers into their respective places.

Added:
to just the areas where there is white card stock or flower.

This was then Mounted onto a White A2 Card base, with black ribbon and a sentiment.

Let me tell you a little secret.  The first time I placed the sentiment on the black card space I missed and it was off kilter.  so I cut another one, trimmed down the "Messed up one" and glued the whole  thing onto the new mat that I cut just a tad bigger.  You can't tell and it saved me re-stamping, embossing, die cutting and it even gives a bit more dimension.  So now it looks like I planned it to give that little bit of height so I didn't need to back with fun foam.

Lovely card:: Supplies used:

Floral stamp was from :"Dahlia, April 2016", Black ribbon and paper for mounting, as well as silver Velum were from "Cherry Blossom,, April 2017.  The Sentiment "Crewel and Unusual, February 2016".

Card 3:

This was inspired by a card I saw on Michael Strong's Group. Here is the link to the blog  Faith Anderson Blog,
This card is just lovely.  I love the softness and the whole feel.

This a 5x7 card base, a soft yellow, with a green mat.  The White front is 4.5"X6.5 inches.

Measured and inked the lines.  Stamped and colored the floral and then went back and embossed the black lines with my Scor Pal.   Colored the floral and surrounding area with Copic.  In hind site, I should have just colored the flowers and not the back ground, ok well, it is the idea we are working o here, so I'll perfect it next time.

Then I die cut the octagon opening.
Using score tape I surrounded the octagon and placed  over it a piece of tulle.

Then I fussy cut, using a larger octagon another piece of paper, this is one with bees and a honeycomb.  Attached a piece of tulle over this.  Added sequins and using score tape placed them together, creating a "flat shaker card".
Cut a frame using the 2 octagon nested, added a bow with an embellishment,.  Lastly mounted on to the card base.  Finished!!

another view!!

So what did I use:  Score pal and marker for the corner.  Floral came from "Girlfriends 2015",
Paper from "Garden Shed, September 2016 and Sunflowers, August 2016".  The embellishment from "Cherry Blossom, April 2017 as well as a fe of the sequins.
