Club Scrap Blog Hop: Color Me Happy

Time for another blog hop, seems like it was just Christmas and now it is nearly the end of January which means I had better get started on my Valentines.  Oh well, so it goes.  Before we jump into my cards, you should have arrived from Cheryl, and if you got lost along the way Click Here.

So lets get stated.  The kit this month was color me happy.  Included in the kit, besides the wonderful paper and stamps, was 2 sheets of 12 X 12 Yupo paper.  Yupo is weird paper that is really a plastic that is porous.  It accepts Alcohol inks like no other.  So, after my laborious task of creating the pop up, in my previous post (take a look if you haven't) I decided to Yupo my way through this blog hop

I pulled out my Ranger Alcohol Ink and my Copic Various (these are the same as the alcohol inks, but ofter a bit softer, 70% isopropyl alcohol and my Copic Blending Solution.  I had intended to use the ranger blending solution, bleach out areas, but unfortunately, I could find my bottle no where, oh well, I had plenty to play with.  And play I did.  I cut up my Yupo into useable pieces and just started dropping on ink.  Some I blew through a straw, some I added alcohol or blending solution and some went into the trash.  After a fun time, this is what I decided to keep.

Card 1:

I love this card, it is classy, elegant and perfectly flat for mailing.  

I started with the top image, but 1/2 way through I lost one of my panels and started over with the bottom one.  I should not be so messy and I wouldn't lose things!!

I cut this panel into 4th, then chose the parts that I like and using a 1.5 " square cute out the Yupo background.  I mounted this onto slightly smaller fun foam and centered them on a blue cardstock from kit, using a 1.75 inch die.  Placed the 4 squares onto a white card base and then onto the same blue cardstock in an A2 size.  I added some sequins in blue.  Lastly Stamped and embossed the Thank you on Velum and centered it between the top and bottom panels.  Lovely I think.

Card 2:

Well this was the most fun and little "out there".

I doodles all over the background with a black pen and a silver pen.

Then I glued little gems and enamel dots onto the "flowers".

I found a blue "dot or circle" in another panel, cut it out, doodled it into a flower and popped it into the corner on a wiggler.  Added a dragonfly (made the same was as in the pop up blog post, added a sentiment.  Placed it on a white A2 card base.  Voila!!

Card 3:

The background on this card said it all.  Nothing else required.  That is often the hardest with these cards.  When you just want it that background to be the whole card.  Trying to add something, often detracts from the background.

How did I make this.  First it is mostly Copic Various liquid.  My secret tool to create this flowing image.  . . . . .

A Straw!!!!!!

So you drop on your ink and blow like crazy.  It dries rapidly and does not pool.  A dry air can, the kind you use to clean electronics works as well, but moves things way fast, sometimes too fast.  

Almost looks like a flower.  Very soft, and subtle compared to the Ranger Alcohol inks.  

Trimmed it up a bit, added a black ribbon and sequins.

The sentiment is perfect!

Traced around the stamped tag and roughly cut it out.

                              Adhered the tag onto the shadow layer and trimmed it up more

Color Me Happy, January 2017 Kit

Club Scrap Blog Hop: Creative License

Time for another Blog Hop.  This month's kit is Creative License and boy did I get my use out of this kit.  As a guest designer, I created 12 cards for the Greetings to Go and had to find original ideas for this blog hop.  Well I think I did.

So before we start how I created this trio, lets get some navigational information down.

Ok, lets get to it.  This month I decided mostly on Clean and Simple.  This is a masculine kit, good for Fathers Day or a boys graduation. So I went with the idea of "What kind of card would I give a man?"  Not my usual style, but wait until Team Challenge!!! 

Card 1:

I started by cutting out the mat.  I wanted the words to represent a stream of thoughts.  The saying was perfect for this background paper.  Using the black glittering paper I stamped the saying and heat embossed in white, then Die Cut with a tag die.  This one is by Spellbinders and is Elegant Label 4.

The white mat behind was fussy cut using the die as a pattern.  Threaded ribbon through the slots and attached it to the mat with Fun Foam.  Using a linen thread, attached the "bug charm" to the ribbon and using glue dots to hold it into place.  I tried other decorations but the background paper is the focus here so I left it be.

Final step was to mount the front panel onto a mat of the same black paper that I had used for the tag and then onto an A2 teal Card Base.  

I think this says Graduation or just a note to cheer someone away from home.  

Card 2:

Another very simple card.  I had first stamped and embossed this image in Brown and loved it, but I could not get it to work with the papers, so after several failed attempts settled on Grey.  Message here, relax and go with the flow.  There was no Brown Cardstock included in the kit, the base card stock is grey and black, ok, .  So I stamped it in grey and heat embossed in clear, die cut with a My Favorite Things stitched die.  

This was mounted onto a mat that was cut from the license plate paper, paying attention to the design so it would be balanced.  This was then mounted onto an A2 Grey Card Base made from the paper in the kit.  The only thing needed was an embellishment.  A teal ribbon and the key fit the bill.  Very simple, suitable masculine card for almost any occasion.  

Card 3:

Well it is technique time.  This card started out as a different idea.  In one of Club Scraps blog posting, Tricia, used metallic paper that looked like metal.  I did not get any, BOO HOO, so I decided to make my own. Started by trying to find an embossing folder that looked like metal plate.  Did you know that Michaels no longer carries Embossing Folders or Martha Steward Paper Crafting Supplies?  Go figure.  And Hobby Lobby, well they have so few embossing folders that they just should not bother.  What is the world coming too!!!  The heart and soul of paper crafting is disappearing before our eyes.  Oh well, I got over it.  Rethink plan.. . . . .Next stop, Home Depot.  They never fail me..

I bought this.  Flashing tape, foil with adhesive on the back and I did this....

And then using "tool's created this. . . . . . .

Not bad, right.  Don't think I am a genius, I found the idea from Tim Holtz here, but he used Ranger Foil Paper and of course neither Michaels or Hobby Lobby carries it and of course Home Depot only had 3" flashing in stock!!!  Now what.  Improvise.  And here is where my great idea falls apart:

I pulled out my alcohol inks and started adding it to the foiled paper.  Each layer was dried thouroughly  in between each application and I had about 4 layers when I decided to add Turquoise to give the look of corroded metal.  Looked ok, but I needed to remove most of the ink with steel wool, and I didn't have any.  After all my running around I was running out of time, so I will finish this later.  But now what.  I needed one more card and it was getting late, so I went down stairs and found some good old Reynolds Aluminum Foil and I  ran it though my Zyron.  I left on the backing sheet.  So now we are back at the beginning.  

Using the same alcohol inks: Cafe, Latte, Ginger, and Black, I inked the foil.  It looks just like the picture above, but there is no embossing.  I forgot to snap a picture ( I was a little frustrated to say the least) so 

 I ran it though the Big Shot in an embossing folder and got this.  Perfect.  Peeled off the backing, a adhered it to a card stock that was cut to size and then trimmed down foil.  It is important to stabilize before cutting, ask me how I know.  There was not just one of these fabulous creatures, I have many in my garbage can, you just get to enjoy the final project without all the testing, LOL.  

After all that work I did not want to cover it up!!!  It took all day with shopping and thinking and googling and, well you get the idea.  

My favorite Movers and Shapers die from Sizzix is the Jalopy.  So I die cut it from some black chipboard, using Inca Gold gilding paste, spruced it up a bit, added a strip of paper for the windows, my last piece of Orange ribbon and I was happy.

Lastly a sentiment, stamped in brown and embossed in clear, die cut and mounted onto fun foam completes the front.  I found a piece of left over brown from another kit, created and A2 card base, Done!!!!!
